Davao is Ready for 2017 Independence Day

The National Committee on Historical Research (NCHR) of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is ready for the 119th Independence Day anniversary with this year’s theme: “Kalayaan 2017, Pababagong Sama-samang Babalikatin”.


Earlier today there were activities for the eve of our 119th Independence Day.

Dr. Rene Escalante, chair of the NCHR, said the activities today will start with a flag-raising and wreath laying in Luneta at 8 a.m with President Rodrigo Duterte as guest of honor.

Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo Ano will join him. There will be activities to happen in other sites throughout the country.

Activities would include a Vin d’honneur for lunch in Malacanan followed by a cultural show and parade in the afternoon in Luneta.

Other sites of the activities are in Kawit, Cavite with Senator Panfilo Lacson; North Cemetery with Philippine Veterans Administrator Ernesto Carolina; Barasoain Church in Malolos with Senator Loren Legarda; and, at the Bonifacio Monument, Caloocan City with Justice Mariano del Castillo.

Cabinet secretaries are also assigned to lead the Independence Day activities. In Davao City, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana will lead the activity.

Government agencies and local government units are also encouraged to hold similar activities. Escalanate said a circular will be released by Malacanan to celebrate Independence Day with flag raising rites.
